What Others Are Saying
We cannot wait to help you "see the possibility" with binocular vision training.
The first day of eye therapy was hard. I could not read well because everything wobbled, but with weeks of working I was able to master eye therapy. It was hard work, but worth it. I now have 20/20 vision. Mrs. Katie has changed my life forever. We did reading with lenses and activities with sticks and more. My life is amazing now. Thank you Mrs. Katie. -LE
Eye therapy with Mrs. Katie is fun. We do lots of homework. I’m glad I got to do this opportunity to work with my eyes. She helped me with a lot of stuff like headaches, eyes going out and in. I hope she can help you like she did me. My life changed! -GH
My time with Insight Vision Training Center was pretty good! You get “homework” to do for 3-4 days so it will improve your vision! We do some activities like slap-tap, Brockstring, etc. I think vision therapy has improved my vision a lot! I don’t see as blurry with my right eye. I would 10/10 recommend eye therapy at Insight Vision Training Center. -AD
I love going to see Mrs. Katie on Wednesdays. The things we did were always fun. First thing we did was small chart and big chart. The last thing I did was the Lifesavers. I started therapy with no depth, but now I have depth. -JS
We have had such a great experience with Insight. My son has had wonderful success with his vision and depth perception. We had been told by another eye doctor that his vision was “as good as it could get” and that “ he would never have depth perception”. Not only has my son’s vision improved from 20/60 to 20/30, but he has gained depth perception. It has been worth every penny spent and time given to see my son make such great improvements. -Mom of JS
From day one in the evaluation, I was impressed with Dr. Lyerly's knowledge and enthusiasm! My 5 year old was beginning to really struggle in school and we were fighting for help and interventions. The best intervention we could have hoped for was vision training! It has been a pleasure working weekly with Katie. She made it fun for such a young patient. After six weeks in, there were noticeable changes, and the halfway checkup with Dr. Lyerly was amazing. Proof things were improving made me happy and excited. Then kindergarten end of year testing showed that my daughter met all goals and even exceeded them in some areas!! I cannot wait until the follow up full exam. I know we made a great decision with Insight and the staff, they are remarkable. I'm so glad we have this service close so close by.

I really appreciate my therapy time with Insight. Katie and Dr. Lyerly are wonderful! They tailored exercises to my unique challenges and helped me achieve truly life-altering results! And it was fun! Not only do I see with better depth now-reaching for objects, parking lot maneuvers-but I also am much more confident about what I see. My eye exams prove it, too, jumping several lines during the first two progress checks. Born with an eye turn and now middle aged, I am proof that therapy can work for all ages. My "lazy eye" is stronger and communicating with my brain better. I have techniques to help it align as well as strategies to keep it in line as I age. My improved visual acuity and depth perception will keep me driving (no longer blind in one eye!) and independent for many years to come. I would recommend this program to anyone struggling with vision issues similar to mine. I don't regret a single minute or penny spent on this program and would do it all again.
This therapy was amazing. Katie was patient and kind. I was amazed that I saw improvement in my husband's vision in the first week and the therapy began months after he had a serious stroke. I would recommend them to anyone and I thank VTC for everything. -Wife of FD
We are so thankful for Dr. Lyerly! Without her diagnosis and eye therapy, our daughter would have struggled for who knows how long. The things that concerned me as she had gotten older have finally been "fixed". (Her head tilt to one side, her poor depth perception, her inability to see far away (which still passed traditional eye exams), her incoordination.) Even simple things like hiking have become more natural, rather than being so hesitant with foot placement. Eye therapy has made a huge impact on her reading skills (at one point I actually thought she may be dyslexic before eye therapy). The best part was that the process was so gradual that RK wasn't even aware of the progress that she had made. After meetings with her teachers they told me they could tell a difference with her focus and reading in class, which is something she did not like in the past. Thank you Dr. Lyerly for your dedication, your patience and for the opportunity you gave us to help RK...even though she REALLY wanted glasses. -Mom of RKW
Katie's experience in vision therapy was awesome! Our therapist, Katie Mann, was so patient and can relate to kids on their level. My daughter is now able to go without her (reading) glasses. She used to complain that words would "move around on the page" when she read, but that no longer happens.-Mom of KM
My therapist Katie was super nice. She was also super easy to work with. I find vision therapy fun and VERY helpful. The words used to move around on the pages of the books I would read. Now, after vision therapy the words don't move around anymore. -KM
I love sports, specifically, soccer and basketball. I have been playing soccer since I was four years old and basketball since third grade. I have worn glasses or contacts to every practice, every workout and every game because I am legally blind in my left eye. I have amblyopia, so my eyes do not work together and I have a difficult time with depth perception. I started noticing that it was getting harder to judge the distance between me and the ball in soccer and shooting and rebounding were becoming more difficult in basketball. My eye doctor, Dr. Owens, suggested Binocular Vision Training as an option to help me because he had corrected my vision as much as he could with corrective lenses. I was nervous about the thought of “therapy” of any kind, but I wanted to give it a try. Dr. Lyerly contacted my mom and emailed some information about BVT for me and my parents to read before setting up the first appointment. My initial evaluation with Dr. Lyerly went pretty well. Dr. Lyerly tested my depth perception and my eye alignment. Both were okay, but not even close to “normal”. Dr. Lyerly explained that I would be her oldest patient and that the therapy would consist of 30 weekly sessions. My first session was really laid back and easy, but I was still nervous. What if I couldn’t complete the assignments? What if my eyes didn’t respond to therapy? As the weeks went by, Dr. Lyerly really made me feel much more comfortable. She is so encouraging and has such a positive attitude. Dr. Lyerly customized my sessions to fit what I needed and my homework consisted of simple, yet strenuous, tasks for my eyes. As therapy continued my visual system really started picking things up fast. So fast that Dr. Lyerly cut my sessions to 15 weeks instead of 30 weeks, as originally recommended. I loved BVT and looked forward to the sessions each week. Dr. Lyerly made the sessions fun! BVT has retrained my visual system to work the way it was always supposed to work. My sessions are coming to an end and I can tell a huge difference with my vision. I can actually see in 3D which means I can judge where the ball is on the field and make more shorts and grab more rebounds in basketball. I have much better depth perception which I look forward to using this fall when I get my driver’s permit.
Binocular vision training helped me to see and read much better. The staff are kind and funny. BVT is very fun, yet beneficial. The only bad thing is that they find your weakness and make you work really hard! My weakness was spelling; Dr. Lyerly has me working on that. Overall, therapy is a must do!
Therapy has helped me learn to focus on my surroundings and helped me become a better listener. I would recommend eye therapy to people that need it. It will really help you even if it doesn’t seem like it at first. It is definitely worth it!
I love vision therapy because my life felt normal, but now I feel a drastic change! Everything is CLEAR. I do homework and here are some of my exercises: b/d/p/q, foot work and slap-tap. Insight is my program for therapy with Katie. She has a super power of making anything fun! It is the most fun with my friend Katie.
Dr. Lyerly and Katie,
I have finally gathered my thoughts after crying all the way home with tears of joy! [My child] has improved so much that everyone has noticed her improvements. Her teachers and therapists notice that she is totally different with great improvement. You all just do not know how much your service has improved her quality of living. The vision therapy has been the missing piece over the last year and half. No words can truly express how awesome you both have been and how much therapy has helped.
Thank you so much for everything!
Vision therapy was a game-changer for us. We knew something was "off" for our daughter when it came to reading and writing, and she suffered chronic headaches at school/while reading. We tried several other paths to pinpoint what was happening before Insight. After our first meeting with Dr. Lyerly, my daughter said to me, "Finally someone who understands what I see.". The therapy has made her headaches go away completely and there was an immediate improvement with her reading, writing and spelling. We can not express how thankful we are to have found Insight Vision Training!
[My daughter's] eye problem was not discovered until she was 9 years old. We were referred to an eye specialist who tried patching for over one year. After that time, he said there was no more to be done. It was heartbreaking because she really wanted to play sports and the heavy glasses made that hard. We found Insight through our eye doctor. It took a short time to get in for treatment, but the results proved it worked! It took a lot of dedication from [our daughter], but she is thrilled with the results. She finally has better vision to wear contacts, her perception has improved for sports and she feels so confident. It is a miracle to find a place of hope after being told there was none. Thank you!
Thank you for the personnel who worked with me to correct my eye condition. The pace of the therapy was at a speed to help and guide me to be successful and to achieve my goals. Each accomplishment guided me to be eager in each activity and continue to advance in my personal program. The individual attention given to me by my therapist was great in guidance and the one-on-one activities helped me gain back my self-confidence. Thank you and the staff for keeping me on track and working with me. We are a "great team"! God bless you and your great staff.
Eye therapy was great and the people were really nice. They made it very fun and it was ok if you got something wrong. They encourage you and help you until you get it right! I give my eye therapy 5 stars.
Before vision therapy I was having problems with focusing and I had lots of headaches. I was scared to have vision therapy, but Dr. Lyerly was so nice. Now I love to read! I am so thankful I had vision therapy.
Our family recently moved to Winston-Salem around the same time our 7 year old daughter was starting to complain of headaches and focusing problems during reading. Her pediatric doctor recommended Dr. Lyerly and Insight Vision Training Center. Upon our first visit, Dr. Lyerly identified that our daughter had a focusing issue that other doctors had over looked in the past. We were so thankful to this initial attention to detail. Dr. Lyerly has been with us every step of the way, introducing us to the program, helping research insurance options and always offering any assistance we needed to help our daughter reach her goals. She has helped us have the best experience possible. I have also been highly impressed with Dr. Lyerly's patience, professionalism and talent. She is so amazing with kids. Our daughter now loves to read and does not experience headaches. What a blessing Dr. Lyerly, her staff and this program is to the community!
